The person behind The Light Within Ceremonies

Meet Dimal Patel

Every life has a story. My role is to listen, understand and help families honour that story with care, warmth and dignity.

A personal approach to every farewell

I’m Dimal Patel, the independent funeral celebrant behind The Light Within Ceremonies. I support families across Lancashire in creating funeral and memorial ceremonies that feel personal, thoughtful and true to the person being remembered.

There is no single right way to say goodbye. Some families want a traditional, reflective service; others prefer laughter, favourite music, meaningful stories and a celebration of a life well lived. Often, it is a little of both. My approach begins by listening, without assumptions about what a family should want.

I take time to learn about the person behind the dates and milestones: their character, their relationships, the little habits everyone remembers, and the moments that still make people smile. Those details help shape a ceremony with a genuine sense of connection.

Approachable, thoughtful and dependable

I believe a professional service can still feel warm and human. Families should feel able to ask questions, share a funny story, pause when they need to, and be themselves.

My aim is to help create a farewell that feels right for the people who knew and loved the person being remembered.

How I work with families

When we first speak, I’ll explain how I can help and answer questions without pressure or obligation. If you choose to work with me, we’ll arrange time to talk through memories, readings, music, family contributions and the tone you would like the ceremony to have.

I then prepare a personalised script and work with you to check important names, details and stories. I liaise with the funeral director and others involved so that the ceremony is coordinated and everyone understands their part.

On the day itself, my focus is on delivering the ceremony calmly and respectfully, giving you space to remember your loved one rather than worry about the running order.

Different traditions. The same respect.

Every family is different, and I welcome conversations about religious, non-religious and mixed-tradition ceremonies. My role is to listen carefully, be clear about what I can provide and work respectfully with other professionals where appropriate.

I also offer support to Hindu families who would value an English-speaking celebrant alongside their chosen traditions and, where required, a pandit. I do not present myself as a Hindu priest or replace religious rites. The family’s own customs, beliefs and wishes guide the approach.

Professional preparation and safeguarding

I have completed Independent Funeral Celebrant Training with the Celebrant Coaching and Training Academy. My training is part of a wider commitment to preparing ceremonies carefully, communicating clearly and maintaining professional standards.

I also completed NSPCC Learning’s “Introduction to safeguarding and child protection” on 15 February 2026. This is introductory safeguarding training, not an NSPCC endorsement or accreditation of my business.

The Light Within Ceremonies maintains professional policies covering confidentiality, safeguarding, complaints and data protection. You can read more in the Professional Standards section.

Working alongside funeral directors

I value the expertise of funeral directors and see my role as complementary to theirs. Clear communication, agreed timings, accurate scripts and sensitivity to the family’s circumstances are central to a smooth, dignified ceremony.

I welcome enquiries from funeral directors looking for an independent celebrant for a family-led, traditional or culturally sensitive service.
